about

We do not live our lives in straight lines. At any given age, we are both our current self and each of our past moments; an accumulation of every emotion, experience, or connection that has brought us closer to ourselves and our communities. This constant and ever-evolving doubling back of our identity becomes our story.

For me, the common weave to my story is music. Soulful music that draws people in, speaks the truth, opens our hearts, and brings us together. Music is my connective tissue, the roots of which come from the gospel music sung in St. John's CME Church in Winston-Salem, NC, where my grandfather preached. That same sound emanated from so much of the soul and R & B I listened to in the sixties and seventies on the black AM radio stations, and later, the soft rock I was introduced to by Wolfman Jack on AM radio.

The songs I selected for this album share a message of bringing us together in our collective human experience. The music moves us in the way a preacher moves their congregation. We get up off our feet and hold on to the words and what they stir in us. We are transported to the absolute truth of the moment where we can join in the experience together. This is what the world needs right now, and it is what I want to give.

Cory Weeds, I am so grateful for your support and dedication in helping me create my album, "Let Them Talk." These songs are very personal to me, and I wanted to share them with the world in a way that would honor their meaning and impact on my career. I couldn't have done this without your help.

Cats, thank you for being on this journey with me. Your musical knowledge, experience and dedication were invaluable in shaping the sound of the album. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. I am so proud of what we created together. Ben, your Hammond B3 organ playing is simply amazing. You brought “Rev. Paterson” into the studio and gave a groove to the album that I know my fans will love. Matt, your guitar playing is simply incredible. You added so much depth and soul to the album with your solos and accompaniment. Thank you for your willingness to go the extra mile as co-producer. Pete, your drumming is simply on point. You kept the rhythm tight and the groove moving throughout the album.

Dawn Pemberton, thank you for your expert ears, your support, and your beautiful spirit! Thank you, Sheldon, and the team at Zed Productions, for capturing my voice and the music in the best possible way. Thank you, David Kowalski at Teaneck Sound, for “sweeting the sound”!

Thank you to Pat Prescott, host of Favorite Things on radio station WBGO, for giving the eagle land first! Shenna Fitzgerald, thank you for "getting me" with love and accuracy.

I would also like to thank my fans for their continued support. I hope you enjoy listening to the album as much as I enjoyed making it.

Thank you for your heavenly guidance, Mommie and Daddy - this is for you.
